Rafa Benitez’s men grabbed their first win in four games thanks to goals from Christian Atsu, Matt Ritchie and a brace from Ayoze Perez.
Nerves were evident after Jordan Hugill drew the visitors level on 14 minutes but Paul Gallagher’s red card saw Ritchie converting the proceeding penalty with the result of the game beyond any serious doubt.

The Magpies are also the divisions top scorers with 80 goals to their name and only conceding 40.
Newcastle spent over £30m in total in pre-season with signings Ritchie and Dwight Gayle netting 32 league goals between them so far.
