Ex-England international Ugo Ehiogu dies in hospital after collapse

Former England defender Ugo Ehiogu has died in hospital at the age of 44 following a cardiac arrest.

The former Aston Villa, Sheffield United and Middlesbrough player collapsed at Tottenham’s training ground yesterday before being taken to hospital.

It was announced on Friday morning that Ehiogu has passed away following the collapse.

Tottenham’s head of coaching and development John McDermott said: “Words cannot express the shock and sadness that we all feel at the club, “Ugo’s immense presence will be irreplaceable.” 

A statement from the club read: “It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Ugo Ehiogu, our Under-23 coach. “The club sends it’s deepest condolences to Ugo’s family.”

He played 406 games in his career, scoring 22 goals for 6 clubs and winning 3 League Cups.
