CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Real Madrid v Atletico Madrid – 2nd May/ 9th May

This is the first time the two Madrid clubs meet in the semi-finals of the Champions League. They have met in the final twice with real Madrid coming out on top both times (2014 & 2016). They also met in the quarter finals of the competition in 2015, when Real also won 1-0 over both legs. Thus, they have met each other in the previous three Champions League competitions.

Real Madrid have won the Champions League that most times (11)

Atletico have never won the competition but have been runners up 3 times (1974, 2014 & 2016)

Monaco v Juventus – 3rd May/ 10th May

These two clubs have only twice once before in their history and that was in the quarter-finals of this competition. Once in 1998, when Juventus won 6-4 on aggregate and the other occasion in 2015 in which Juventus came out 1-0 victors over both legs.

Monaco have never won Europe’s biggest prize but reached the final in 2004

Juventus have won the Champions League twice in eight finals (1985 & 1996)

EUROPA LEAGUE

Ajax v Lyon

Ajax and Lyon have faced off four times before in Europe. They were in the Champions League in 2002, when Ajax won both times, and 2011 when both games remained goalless.

Ajax have won the competition once in 2002.

Lyon have never won the Europa League, this being the furthest stage they’ve ever reached.

Celta Vigo v Manchester United

This will be the first time these two teams have ever met

This is the furthest Celta Vigo have reached in any major European competition.

Manchester United have never won the competition, this being the furthest the club has ever got in the Europa League.
