EUROPEAN ROUND UP: 15th – 16th April 2017

SPAIN

Real Madrid struck late again to survive a scare against Sporting Gijon as they edged past the relegation candidates 3-2 to retain their 3-point lead at the top of La Liga.

Barcelona also survived a close shave in their 3-2 home victory over Real Sociedad with Lionel Messi grabbing a brace before Alcácer García netted the winner. They are three points off Madrid but have played a game more.

Atletico Madrid sailed to a 3-0 victory over rock-bottom Osasuna whilst Sevilla drew 0-0 with Valencia

Tony Adams didn’t get off the start he hoped for with Granada as they fell to a 3-0 home defeat to Celta Vigo.

 

GERMANY

Bayern Munich were held to a stalemate by Bayer Leverkusen as Leipzig managed to cut their lead at the top of the Bundesliga to 8 points after they beat Freiburg 4-0.

In the battle for the automatic Champions League spot, Hoffenheim’s incredible season continued as they ran 5-3 winners over Borussia Monchengladbach to ensure Borussia Dortmund didn’t over take them as they remain a point behind in fourth despite beating Frankfurt 3-1.

Hertha Berlin lost meaning they are now 10 points off the top 4.

Meanwhile Schalke and Wolfsburg continue to struggle to break into the top half of the table with Darmstadt all but relegated despite beating Schalke 2-1 as they sit rock bottom of the table on 18 points.

 

ITALY

A 97th minute equalizer from AC Milan forward Cristian Zapata snatched his side a point in their 2-2 derby draw with Inter Milan. Both teams remain 6th and 7th respectively.

Juventus won to attain their 8-point lead at the top of Serie A after Roma could only muster a draw with Atalanta.

Napoli beat Udinese 3-0 to make up the top 3 as Lazio drew with Genoa to stay in 5th as Fiorentina lost ground on them after losing 2-1 at home to Empoli.

 

FRANCE

FBL-FRA-L1-MONACO-METZ

Monaco beat Dijon to stay 3 points clear at the top of Ligue 1 with chasers PSG and Nice both winning.

Lyon’s game with Bastia was abandoned after fans stormed onto the pitch to fight opposition supporters. The incidents are being investigated by UEFA.

Rivals Marseille beat Saint Etienne earlier in the day.

It remains tight at the bottom of the table with the bottom 5 all separated by as many points. Nancy, Lorient and Dijon all lost whilst Caen drew.

 

 

HOLLAND

The title race is the closest it has been in years with Feyenoord currently heading the Eredivisie by a point after their 2-0 win over Utrecht. Chasers Ajax thumped Heerenveen 5-1 whilst PSV are still 7 points off the pace after they could only draw.

 

PORTUGAL

After Porto slipped up in their 1-1 draw with Braga, Benfica went top after they beat Maritimo 3-0. Sporting remain third after they also won.

 

OTHER

Spartak Moscow dominate the Russian league as they currently sit 10 points ahead of second placed CSKA Moscow with Zenit a point behind in third.

Anderlecht top the table in Belgium with Olympiakos of Greece, Basel of Switzerland and Besiktas of Turkey all heading their respective leagues
