After 5 years in the National League, Southport have been relegated to the Conference North following a 3-0 loss away at Dover.
After only picking up 35 points in 43 games, shipping a massive 92 goals on the way, Stockport are now an unassailable 13 points from safety.
The club finished 7th in the 2011-12 season but failed to finish inside the top half of the league since.
In a statement the club said:
“This is hugely disappointing to the Board, Team Management and of course, our supporters. We would like to thank the club’s supporters for their backing during a very difficult season.
The Club will work tirelessly to ensure a strategic framework is in place to allow the First Team to have a much more successful 2017/18 campaign. We will endeavour to update supporters on our plans as soon as possible.”
What was the main hindrance to Southport this season?
What happens now?
Will they bounce straight back up?
